Routine After-Hours Inspection Requests
To avoid desensitizing building occupants to fire alarm activations, SMFR does not conduct construction inspections involving the activation of notification devices in occupied buildings. Instead, these inspections are conducted at 6 am on business days before the building is occupied with employees or open to the public. There is an additional fee for this service. If you are requesting an after-hours inspection at any time besides 6 am on business days, see the "Unique After-Hours Requests" information below. The process for a routine after-hours request is as follows:
- Request an after-hours inspection by submitting the After Hours Inspection Request form at least 2 business days in advance.
- You will be notified by an SMFR Permit Coordinator via email when your request has been processed and the fees are ready to be paid.
- Notify the SMFR Permit Coordinator via email after you login to your Accela Permit Portal account and pay the fee.
- The SMFR Permit Coordinator will confirm the details of your inspection with you via email.
Unique After-Hours Inspection Requests
Besides the routine requests described above, we can occasionally accommodate requests to perform construction inspections outside of regular business hours or business days. This service is reserved for large or complex projects, or projects that necessitate interruptions to critical business processes (such as temporary evacuation of a hospital floor that would normally be occupied 24-7). These requests must be approved by FMO Leadership at least one week in advance. There are additional fees for this service, and this service is reliant on the voluntary availability of a qualified member of our team. Please discuss your anticipated needs with your Fire Inspector well in advance - they will provide direction on how to proceed if a unique after-hours request is appropriate.
