How to Schedule an Inspection

Inspection requests for permits need to be scheduled online in the electronic plan review and permitting software.  Log in with your User ID and Password, search for the record (permit), and choose Inspections from the summary page. All requests for inspection received in by 3 p.m. on weekdays will be scheduled for inspection the next business day, unless requested for a specific future date.  Inspection requests received after 3 p.m. will be scheduled for the second business day following the request.

Fire Inspections

Our new construction fire inspectors understand that your time is just as valuable as theirs. Once the inspections have been assigned to a fire inspector for the day, the fire inspector will call the contact listed for the inspection to schedule a time for the inspection to be conducted.

Rough Inspections

Several permits issued by South Metro Fire Rescue require that rough inspections be completed prior to final inspections being scheduled. These permits are as follows.

Fire Alarm System

A rough inspection shall be scheduled to inspect fire alarm wiring and to ensure proper device placement.  Most building departments will also conduct a rough wire inspection.  The electrical inspector for the building department will be assuring correct wiring methods.  South Metro Fire Rescue will be assuring that correct wire type and size have been installed.

Fire Sprinkler System

A rough inspection of fire sprinkler piping, sprinkler head locations, and hydrostatic testing shall be scheduled prior to exposed pipe being covered in any way. Where solvent cement is used as the pipe and fittings bonding agent, sprinklers shall not be installed in the fittings prior to the fittings being cemented in place. South Metro Fire Rescue Authority will require the following procedure on all CPVC sprinkler systems:

  • A rough inspection shall occur, without sprinkler heads, of all piping and fittings including the threaded head adapters.
    • Once the rough inspection of the open ended pipe has been approved, the sprinklers shall be installed and a hydrostatic test conducted.

Underground Fire Line

A rough inspection of the underground fire line shall be scheduled to ensure proper line placement, adequate joint protection, thrust block installation (if applicable) and bedding depth. This inspection shall be scheduled in conjunction with the required hydrostatic testing of the fire line.

Existing Building Inspections

South Metro performs fire code compliance inspections in our existing buildings and businesses on a routine, risk-based schedule. However, from time to time, business owners needs us to complete an inspection outside of our normally scheduled timeframe for various reasons such as a requirement of another agency. If that is the case, please contact our Fire Marshal’s Office at 720-989-2230.
