South Metro's Engine Companies are designed to be initial response units to all-hazard emergencies involving fires, medicals, traffic accidents or hazardous materials. Engines are staffed by 3 or 4 firefighters and depending where they are housed in our district, carry between 750 and 1,500 gallons of water. Haz-Mat 38 is a specialized vehicle operated by South Metro's Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team. The crew of Engine 38 staffs this unit when its needed for emergencies like fuel spills and investigations of unknown or harmful substances.
