The South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) Board of Directors approved a new overall fee schedule during a public meeting on July 6, 2020. These new fees -- which include work that the South Metro Fire Marshal’s Office conducts – will be going into effect on August 10, 2020 and can be found here.
The SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for all aspects relating to code enforcement in existing buildings and facilities and for all new development, construction, and permitting services through the district. This new fee schedule will allow South Metro to offset costs incurred by the district for development and construction services such as inspections and plan reviews, as well as enable South Metro to continue to provide high levels of service to its customers -- including next day construction inspections, staffing levels that allow availability to answer questions and provide assistance, and more.
South Metro continues to strive to be a valued community partner and has done extensive evaluation to ensure that the new fees are aligned with industry best practices. This includes working with a third-party consultant to ensure that the fees are on par with costs, analyzing a cost comparison with neighboring fire districts and jurisdictions, and conducting a survey to community members and stakeholders. As a result, the new fees have now been finalized with SMFR Board approval via Resolution 2020-09.
Because South Metro serves multiple cities and three counties, the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office enforces various editions of the International Fire Code specific to the geo-political boundaries the organization serves.
